1) The photoshoot hair and makeup was done by a friend of mine (Allison Boyle) and she is totally fabulous (I have included the shots below so you can see her beautiful work - my fave is the top photo)
2) My mum used to be (and to an extent still is) the absolute authority on all things racing. I grew up around the industry and my mum used to always win the fashions on the field, evidenced by the huge number of real fur coats we have hanging in the spare room and holidays she has taken around the world as prizes.
It is for this reason that I have a massive issue with what some people deam appropriate as race wear and appropriate fashion at the races. God knows every time we go to the races there is a massive shopping expedition and I have to pass the inspection before I leave the house to make sure I am of the right standard.
So these are a few of the Deane family rules for the races:
Putting a few feathers in your hair and labeling it as a fascinator is not ok! Try to always wear an actual hat if you can.
Some may argue with me on this point but I don't believe that women should wear pants/trousers at the track unless they are horse trainers or hospitality staff. Wear a dress or a skirt
Your dress/skirt should be knee length - save the mini for your saturday night out at a bar and the maxi for the beach.
Taking off your shoes at the end of the day and walking around drunk and barefoot is not attractive in the slightest. Don't do it...EVER
The excessively orange spray tan never looks good and if you think the races is a good time to try it out for the first time, you are seriously mistaken.
Always spend time either getting a professional Mani/Pedi or take the time to do a good at home job the night before the big day. Chipped nail polish is not fashionable despite what the Olsen twins might do occasionally.
Try and match your accessories - without being too matchy matchy (if that makes sense???) But do KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Black heels, black clutch handbag. Metallic heels, metallic purse. You get the idea.

I love this! Spring Racing is my fav time of the year after Christmas!! I think its important to also brush up on your racing knowledge.. just enough to know the Waterhouses are or Bart etc.. and not to stand in the way of anyone who is seriously punting - after all, doesnt matter how well dressed you are - you lose it all with ignorance and bad manners.
