Teapots - Shibuya

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Some tea pots on display in a tea house I visited in Shibuya. I love the way they were displayed, teapots literally coverred the walls, every different size, shape an colour. I couldn't resist taking some photos.

A few years back, when Caity and I lived in London and were doing our t-shirt line together, we decided to do some publicity shots using each other as models.  In retrospect, I really don't know why we ever thought it was a good idea.  I was fat back then so they turned out making me look like a whale.  But besides that they were fun to do.

Anyways, one of the photos I remember very clearly becasue Caity decided it would be cool to draw a tattoo like drawing all down the right side of my neck and onto my shoulder.  It was actually really cool becasue Caity is a fantastic illustrator.

So this picture reminds me of that...kinda.

Erdem Spring/Summer 2010 Ready to wear

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

If I could own every single piece in the recent Erdem Spring 2010 ready to wear collection I would be eternally happy and wouldn't ever require anything else for the rest of my life...well maybe that last part isn't true, but i would definately be a very happy girl.

Every single piece is extremely wearable and feminine - I love love love it!!!  Don't get me wrong, I love my leather biker jackets and studs as much as the next fashionista. But sometime I just crave being a massive girl and wearing pretty flowers and lace and cocktail dresses all day.

And dont even get me started on the shoes!!!

So here are a few of my favourite.  You can see more here

Japan is crazy about doughnuts!!! I cant tell you the number of artisan boutique doughnut stores I saw, soooooooo many, in all colours and flavours (but not shapes of course).  Sooooo delicious! Here is me eating a lemon tea doughnut in Jimbocho, Tokyo.  I predict doughnuts to be the new cupcakes! Photo above from Japanese Elle October 2009

This is perhaps one of my favourite shoots of all time! OF ALL TIME! It was shot for W October in Paris and New York.  Styling was done by Inez and Vinoodh with models Raquel Zimmerman and Freja Beha Erichsen using the major art galleries - the Centre Pompidou, and MOMA.  I am obsessed.  Art and Fashion perfection... Steve McCurry's blog is a favourite of mine and he happens to be one of the most inspiring photographers.  He travels the globe and conveys in his pictures what is essentially the most sincere parts of the human condition.  His portraits are also some of the most recognisable in recent memory.  One that particularly stands out is of a young Afgahni girl with her hair wrapped in a burgandy scarf and her bright green eyes staring back through the camera lens (below).

One of the most recent posts on his website took my breath away so i wanted to share it with you.  If you go to Steve McCurry's blog and read the post titled "thoughts on portraiture" you will indeed get a lesson not only on what good photography should be, but also on ways of seeing truth behind a persons facade.

"As human beings we are all fascinated with each other and how we look. Diane Arbus talked about the gap between intention and effect as revealed in portraiture. People put on make-up and adorn themselves because they want to create an effect and give a certain impression, but often other people look at them and say it’s tragic or comical or curious or funny or odd. Arbus photographed a woman on Park Avenue trying to make a statement with her appearance, but in fact we see through it, we see the folly. Portraiture can be that kind of sharp critique."

The images will blow you away and you will certainly want to go back time and time again.

For Alexandra...

Saturday, September 26, 2009

When Caity and I first started this blog a few months ago, one of my favourite (and most stylish) people in the whole world, Alexandra, sent me an email saying how obsessed she was with a new pair of Balmain boots and she wanted them badly.  Well my dear Alex, they have been spotted at fashion week this year and I just saw them on Garance Dore's website.  I agree.  I'm obsessed too.
Need.  Want.  Now.

Jessica Alba is undeniably one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood and her shoe wardrobe is amazing! I found these photos a while back in an issue of In Style.  Hope you are as jealous as I am

THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAIL

Thursday, September 24, 2009

The detail at the Louis Vuitton and Lanvin shows were by far my favourite for Fall 2009 RTW. I want these accessories BADLY. Particularly loved the deco/industrial inspired pieces at Lanvin. All photos are from Style.com.
